The first step in the design process is making sure that there is a project worth doing. We approach all our enquiries with a open mind using a combination of experience and research to asses the likelihood of you being able to achieve your brief. These are usually presented in a visual document containing topographical and special studies as well as summary local planning policy and our approach to meeting it if applicable. These documents often form the basis of a pre-application submission.
Feasibility
As part of the early design service it is sometimes necessary to get approval in concept or principle. This is done by submitting a pre application to your local authority. These vary from council to council as far as what is expected to be submitted however usually contain a presentation of relevant planning criteria and an explanation of how the scheme aligns with there development plan.
Pre-application
We take design seriously seeing the value in a rigorously though out idea that ultimately forms the bases of a great building. We model ideas quickly using 3D software to generate more understandable study of ideas. This approach make things a lot easier to visualise and ultimately helps trust that a project is going in the intended direction. The primary advantage of seeing a 3D model on the computer is being able to see crucial interfaces potentially with an adjacent building.
Concept Design
We offer a comprehensive approach to planning ensuring that a feasible approach is taken to maximise your chances of a projects approval. Though approval is never guaranteed we strive to ensure our advice is of the most benefit to your scheme and its budget. We undertake thorough research into your area and its Local Authority’s policy to greaten the weight of your application. Our studio covers applications from one off new builds and large extensions, right through to a light industrial estates or doctors surgeries.
Planning
With experience on projects spanning multiple sectors including healthcare, automotive, manufacturing facilities and grade 1 listed public buildings. We are confident of delivering technically advance projects with great detail and accuracy. We utilise software packages such as Revit and AutoCAD to maximise our efficiency on your projects and maintain interoperability with other members of the design team.
Technical Design
As room for new buildings becomes less and less understanding our old buildings becomes more vital. The need to work along side and in some cases re-purpose buildings of historic interest is growing and so is our understanding of these types of projects. We have extensive experience in traditional building methods and are capable of producing extremely detailed method of works documents and heritage statements for your local authority as part of a planning application process where a building is listed or it is a submission criteria. Recognising the importance of these kind of projects is fundamentally what grounds us as designers and the opportunity to preserve our architectural history is as relevant now as it ever has been.
